10-Apr-2021 – On Saturday, my wife and me decided to go to the village of Belyy Yar, on the left bank of the Volga river. It is located 90 kilometers from Ulyanovsk. There is only one road from the city to this place. The confluence of 54° north latitude and 49° east longitude is in the vicinity of this road. This place has already been visited in 2004 and the idea arose to visit it again.

The road to Belyy Yar took just over an hour. We have already visited the village. We were there in the summer. The old destroyed pier on the banks of the Volga was of interest to me, I had not seen it before. In the past, ships docked here from Ulyanovsk. Walking on the pier is also dangerous: part of it has collapsed.

On the way back, before reaching the village of Sukhodol, we stopped the car at the shortest distance to the confluence in a straight line - about 900 m. We left together and moved in azimuth. However, deep snow in the copse stopped my wife, and she stayed in the car to wait. I went alone. On the way to the target, I had to pass a small forest with still deep snow, then a plowed field. By the end of the field, there was enough mud on my boots that I started to get stuck. But then there was again a forest with a ravine and deep snow. The confluence is located in this ravine. One way hike took 20 minutes. The place is easily recognizable and hasn't changed in 17 years. I took all the necessary photos and went back the same way.

Some visit data:
