12-Oct-2020 -- A few days vacation during the Covid 19 pandemic ! As the travel limitations got more and more restrictive we ended up with our only option left : a road trip in our home country. So we decided to head north with the goal of visiting the Loire valley and the famous castles stringed all along the river. Traveling with our car also gave us the opportunity to visit a number of CPs lying along our itinerary.
N48 E3 is located in a crop field (again !) and there is a paved road on the west side of the field making the approach very easy. We stayed on the road side to avoid walking in the mud and the pictures were shot at 92 meters west of the actual point. The point and the field are located in one of the very few french oil fields and most previous visitors have noticed the oil pumps (pumpjacks). Two of them are very close to the CP : 120 meters west, just across the road and the other 250 meters north.
At the time of our visit the westernmost pumpjack was stopped certainly before getting some serious upgrading with a new concrete flooring and modern electronic dispatch boxes. These upgradings are already in function on the northern pumpjack site.
This CP is also the nearest from the Castle of Fontainebleau which is a very remarkable landmark site in french history. The first written reference to a castle there dates back in 1137 and since then almost each french king used this castle and ordered successive architectural upgradings. Interstingly, Fontainebleau is the only castle or palace in France where you can find a Throne hall !
