04-Sep-2017 -- Visiting the home point as a birthday celebration
This confluence located about 6 km GPS distance from our country house in Woodstock, hence it is regarded as our “home point”. Driving distance is about 10 km or 12 minutes from our house.
The hunting day was my birthday, and we did a nice hike for a good part of the day. On the way home, I proposed a quick hunt for this point knowing it would only be about 100 meters off the highway. The tired crew reluctantly agreed to the extra hike as a present for my birthday.
Even though the hike to the confluence point was just about 85 meters, the dense weed made it hard for the two hunting dogs. It took almost 15 minutes for all of us to struggle to the exact location.
This point is located in a vacant land near the junction of 3 highways. At that time of the year, it was full of wild flowers, very pretty. A nice birthday hunt, even though the two tired hunting dogs were not too impressed. I plan to revisit this point at a different season given how close it is from our country house.
Rating of this hunt:
Degree of Challenge: 2 – Drive up to within 100 meters but the final approach was hard for the 4 legged companions (1= very easy - drive to the point; to 5= a death march – glad it is over)
Scenery: 4 – A field filled with wild flowers (Scale: 1= not interesting at all; 5= take your breath away)
Culture-social factors: 3 – Part of Catskills of New York near the historic town of Kingston and Hudson river (Scale: 1=dull; 5= most stimulating)
