Desci do carro e iniciei a caminhada.

19-Mar-2014 -- Tuesday, 18 March 2014, I made a business travel to Brasília city and, in the following day, 19 March, I spent a free day visiting confluences in the neighborhood of Distrito Federal.

Distrito Federal has only one confluence, 16S 48W, which I visited in August 2009 in other business travel. In this new opportunity, I aimed one confluence in Minas Gerais state and another in Goiás state.

On 19 March, I woke up at 6:00, had a breakfast, checked out my hotel hosting and went to the rental car agency. I caught the car and headed to the first confluence of the day, 16S 47W. I crossed the border between Distrito Federal and Goiás and the other one between Goiás and Minas Gerais and arrived at Unaí city, 165 kilometers distant from Brasília.

After arriving at Unaí, I crossed the bridge over River Preto and headed by MG-188 paved highway. I passed by Boa Vista village, crossed the border between the municipalities of Unaí and Cabeceira Grande and passed by car 1,200 meters close to the exact point. However, the lack of shoulder in the highway and the lack of a free area to stop the car made me go ahead 1,500 meters more, up to stop the car at a farm entrance.

I left the car and started the hike. I returned by the highway in order to go to the closest point to the confluence and, at the same time, to observe the region, searching by the best point to enter in the bush. There were some regions with denser vegetation and, when I saw a region a bit more open, I left the highway. I was about 1,300 meters to the exact point.

The topography of the region is undulating and the horizon view showed me that I had to cross two or more mounts and valley bottoms. Moreover, the tall grass hardened the hike.

When I was about half way, I had to pass by a deeper bottom valley. When I was nearer to it, I started to hear sounds of running water and started to think that the stream would avoid me to go ahead. I crossed the riparian woods that protect the stream with a bit of hardness and, when arrived at it, I realized that it would be possible to cross it easily, without soaking the feet, due to a stone way in a more narrow leg. I crossed the stream, crossed the riparian woods in the other side and followed by the remaining leg up to get all GPS zeroes, registering my 27th confluence in Minas Gerais state.

I made all the way back and arrived at the car very tired, due to the 6-kilometers long hike, half of it in hard terrain and undulating topography.

I headed to the second confluence of the day. Instead of coming back to Unaí city, I headed to north and to the Minas Gerais – Goiás state border by MG-188 highway. When I crossed the state border, the asphalt ran out and started a leg of unpaved road, 10 kilometers long, up to Cabeceiras city, where I stopped to take a snack and buy water. It was already 13:00.

This narrative continues at 15S 47W.
