#1: The Confluence

(visited by David Williams)

29-Mar-2011 -- A windy and chilly late evening visit after an afternoon spent "Tomb Raiding"*.

No one in at the big house and no cattle in the confluence field so it was a quick jog along the highway verge (polite Orkney drivers giving me a wide berth and a wave - thank you!) until my GPS indicated a 90 degree turn was required. Through the gate (checking it is closed after me) and then a sprint to the confluence point, short all-the-zeros dance, quick photo session and then back to the warmth of my car.

*If you visit this confluence you should also pay a side trip to Wideford Hill Chambered Tomb. A long chat with a local dairy farmer delayed my visit and it was rather dark and spooky and isolated when I dragged open the access hatch and dropped into the tomb. Crawling into one of the side chambers I thought "it is about this point where Indy leans on the wrong stone and the door to the tomb starts to close" - my cue to beat a hasty retreat - even though the tomb has survived 5000 years trust my luck if 2011 was when it is due to come tumbling down...
