#1: These delicious blackberries prevented me from reaching the precise confluence point, but I was still able to get close enough for a successful visit

(visited by Ross Finlayson)

31-Aug-2009 -- I was frustrated that I gave up on my first attempt (4 days earlier) to visit this confluence point, so on my return drive (back to the Bay Area from Portland) I decided to try again. Looking at Google Earth beforehand, I noticed a thin, straight, vertical path (perhaps a utility right-of-way) heading North from the RV park, just East of the 123 W line of longitude. Perhaps I could follow this path to the confluence point, without intruding upon the private property to the West?

So, I starting hiking from the RV park, and soon found this path, but discovered that it was completely covered by a large, impassable blackberry bush. The blackberry bush also prevented me from hiking West of the path; however, I was able to hike in a northerly direction through a pine forest, just East of the path. By hiking through the forest, just to the East of the path, I was able to get 27m from the confluence point - easily close enough for a successful visit.

One benefit of visiting at this time of year is that the blackberries were ripe, and delicious!

(Coincidentally, this was the second time in about a year that a blackberry bush prevented me from getting 'all zeros'. In August 2008, during my visit to [53,-8] in Ireland, a blackberry bush kept me 7 meters away from the confluence point.)
