25-Jul-2009 --

25-Jul-2008 --

On 24 July we set off early from Caracas towards the eastern area of the country, Vincenzo Vecchio, his wife Monica Amaya, his sons Emanuele and Gabriele and his brother-in-law Alejandro Echeverri in his SUV and in my Land Cruiser Rainer Bostelmann, his daughter Daniela daughter, my son Ricardo and I taking as a final destination the population of Irapa in the peninsula of Paria Sucre State. Before we had agreed with Rainier Rada and his daughter meet them in the exit of Puerto La Cruz (city where they live) towards the Sucre State where we pass by, however they decided to start the trip soon in order to concluding contacts with Commander Calles in charge of the National Guard Coastal Watch Base in the population of Guiria. He would give us the logistic support of marine transport for the visit of this Confluence and the 11°N 62°W

We arrive to Irapa at 5:30 pm where our good friend Leonardo Velazquez we were waiting for us in the hotel where we will stay. Rainier stayed in Guiria about 45 minutes east of Irapa and agreed with National Guard Coastal Watch that we will weigh anchor at 5:00 in Guiria Pier.

July 25 day we set off very early from Irapa. We arrived to Guiria where were waiting for us, Rainier, his daughter and the crew of the patrol boat that would lead us to this confluences hunting. We upload snack and hydrating drinks to the patrol boat, and weigh anchor at 5:15 am direction to our first confluence of the day sailing southward by the waters of the Gulf of Paria. At our right we could observe occasionally land which was basically the Orinoco Delta, as well as some characteristic oil offshore platforms and oil facilities in Venezuelan territorial waters (westward) and Trinidad and Tobago territorial waters (eastward).

Guided by Rainier’s Garmin GPSMAP 276C, Sergeant in charge of the helm of patrol boat arrived to the Serpent Mouth, managed to pass just by above the confluence at 7:59 am. In order to take pictures of the GPS with better as possible lectures we turned around the boat and passed several times over the CP and finally all we celebrate the achievement of this visit. We were very surprised by the beauty of vegetation type: mangrove, high coconut plants and original rainforest could be appreciate from the confluence to the West, specifically the Capure Island which is part of the Orinoco Delta. We also appreciate Northward Soldado Rock and towards the Northeast cape Punta del Arenal, territories of Trinidad and Tobago. To the East is appreciated in the distance several oil rig and offshore platforms in territorial waters of Trinidad and Tobago very close to Venezuela.

Once we took the require photos, we change our course now North in order to go to confluence 11°N 62°W.
