19-Jan-2009 -- This is the 53rd of a series of 83 confluence visits during our voyage from Nigeria to Europe and back to Nigeria around the entire African continent. It all started on 28 January 2008 at 11N 5E.

Story continues from 5N 38E.

We spent two days at the very tranquil Kembu Campsite which is about 25 km outside Nakuru. Andrew, the owner of this fantastic place, suggested that we should take the back road to the Emsos gate at the Lake Bogoria National Reserve. Andrew gave us a hand drawn map and some explanation to the route. This route incidentally bypassed the Confluence by 2.2 km.

The area is extensively used to grow sisal. We managed to drive on the farm roads directly to the Confluence. It was 9 a.m. when we were at the Confluence. After completing all the necessary pictures, we continued to the Lake Bogoria.

Lake Bogoria is famous for all the flamingos which are there for 4 months of the year. Around the lakeshore there are a lot of hot water geysers. One of them we used to warm up our tin of Vienna sausages which we had with a nice potato salad for lunch. The lake is a saltwater lake and there are no fish in the lake. The eagles and also the fish eagles are hunting there for flamingos.
