12-Jul-2008 -- The outermost part of Lofoten islands, namely Moskenesøya, doesn't seem to be very popular for confluence-interested people. However, this is for me one of the most beautiful places in Norway! As a result, here is the report of my third confluence-visit at 68°N 13°E.

After two cycling trips to the northern part of Norway during the recent years, my girlfriend and I decided to give a new travelling method a try for our summer vacations in the north: My electrical car TWIKE. We travelled along the coast of Helgeland and took the ferry from Bodø to Moskenes to reach Lofoten islands.

First we hiked up Hermannsdalstinden, 1029m, the highest mountain of Moskenesøya, but ended unfortunately up in fog on the top. On the way back to the car, the day became really sunny and we were thinking about plans for the evening. After checking the time schedule for the boat over Reinefjorden and finding out, that there would be a boat out to Kjerkfjorden late in the evening, we decided to have a small trip up to the edge of Reinebringen, 448m, to enjoy the evening sun over Reinefjorden and Moskenesøya. Back down in Reine, the small boat took us into Kjerkfjorden where we started our walk towards the confluence.

It was already 11 pm when we pitched up our tent on the saddle between Kjerkfjorden and Horseidvika, not far from the confluence. We didn't actually expect to see the midnight sun since some clouds had been coming in during the evening, but since the view towards north was clear, the sun could reach the saddle exactly at midnight with beautiful light shining through a kind of 'window' into the valley between the mountain tops on the coast. Time to make our confluence-visit!

Our camp was only 59m from the confluence, so it became a short, but nice walk after dinner. Confluence 68°N 13°E with midnight sun, what a perfect visit! We were definitely at the right time at the right place!

Next day, we enjoyed a wonderful summer day at the huge sand beach of Horseidvika, then took the fjordboat back to Reine in the afternoon and continued our trip further north.
