14-Sep-2007 -- Visited while attending Aeropac's XPRS rocket launch.

Because of its miles of featureless, unbroken terrain, and the 100,000' FAA approved waiver, Black Rock Dry Lake is probably the world's premier site for flying and recovering high-power rockets.

Since 2001, I have been traveling to Black Rock desert 3-4 times each summer to fly at Aeropac and BALLS launches. The confluence lies about 12 miles north of our launch site, just off the playa. I've wanted to visit it for some time, and have always been busy with the rocket activities.

My friend and fellow rocketeer Barry Dobyns and I have explored the mountains and hot springs to the north a few times before. This time we included a visit to the confluence. We found a jeep trail going in the general direction that got us within 1/2 mile. We had a short, easy hike across a sage-covered alluvial plain that sloped down from the mountains to the playa. We passed the the claim markers noted in the previous visits and soon arrived at the confluence.

After taking some pics, we built a small rock cairn to mark the spot. However, the longevity of our mark is in doubt, since the area appears to be affected by flash floods from up slope.
