#1: N41 E109 汇交点 / Confluence Point

(visited by Wang Jun, Li Hong Wen, Yu Feng and Lao Ma)

English Narrative

English Narrative

07-Aug-2006 -- After the successful hunt of N 41°E 110° yesterday morning, we cycled to Danaitai which was the hub of several routes and was located at the north of Wuliangsu River. This confluence point laid east bank of Wuliangsu River and 7 miles southwest of Danaitai according to the GPS.

We set out at about 7a.m. without having breakfast since the restaurant here would open 8 a.m. at the earliest. About 4 kilometers biking along the road heading southwest, we got on a dusty road and went toward the very west with crops and grassland on both sides. As soon as 2-3kilometers cycling I had a flat tire and stop to mend the puncture. The tire got flat again after another 100 meters journey. Others fell into the same situation one after another. It turned out that the prick of a plant known as "tibullus terrestris" on the road was responsible for that. Although afterwards we tried to make our way in the center of the road, we spent almost the whole morning to finish the ten km or so heading west with our tires pricked and mended and pricked and mended repeatedly. Our team was plagued by it over ten times.

Luckily there was canal along the way for us to check the leaking. All that soothed our mood that the farmer gave us watermelons and the beautiful sights of the Wuliangsu River amused us. We finally approached the confluence point N41 E109 at about 3p.m. That was a black newly-reaped cornfield with the stubble burned off by the farmers. We took pictures and left.

Coordinator's Note: This visit is classified incomplete because it does not meet the photo requirements of the project.
