(visited by Kim Hastings)

16-Sep-2005 -- Two weeks ago I heard a news story on Alaska Public Radio about this project, my first exposure to it. Lucky me! There are a number of as-yet unvisited confluences in my part of the world. Unfortunately, most of them are over water. Oh well. Since I was passing this spot in a boat, I decided to see if I could hit it. There was a moderate wind from the south and a light chop. I spent ten minutes maneuvering but never quite nailed it. Close though! Was on my way to take the dog to the vet (a 100 mile boat trip for us) and that was how much time we could afford. Now I know to pick a calm day for water confluence visits :-)

Note that the 20' elevation shown on the GPS is pretty accurate, as the visit was at high tide and tides in this area are around 15-20'.

There are at least two good confluences on land in Southeast Alaska that are so far unvisited if anyone is looking for a doable project: 58 N 135 W (grrrrr...brown bear territory) and 56 N 133 W (only nice, friendly black bears present).
