We planned to spend this year’s summer holidays at the seaside, in Niechorze – a coastal resort in Western Pomerania. That created an opportunity to visit two confluences lying on the 15th meridian – with 53rd and 54th parallel of north latitude. On our way from Poznań to Niechorze we visited the first one.

Via Gorzów Wielkopolski and Renice (at the gas station you can see a “historical” Polish police car called “Syrena”) we came to the village of Lipiany. Not entering the village we turned to the east and after ca. 1200 m we arrived at a small settlement of Prądnik. GPS showed that the confluence was ca. 820 m to the north-east. I turned left, into a dirt road heading north but I had to stop soon as mud, ruts and rubble lying on the road made it impossible to drive any further. My wife and daughter stayed at the car and I went for the search of the confluence point that was ca. 600 m away.

The weather was very nice, it was warm and sunny, although not hot. I came to a currant field that probably had run wild and went along its edge to an extensive meadow. I was anxious about high grass, growing here and there, which is typical for marshy terrain, but the ground was hard so far.

I was heading north-east trying to leave marsh and reach an adjacent dry meadow. And I was no more than a couple of meters away from there when it happened what I was afraid of – among high grass I fell into the water mid-calf deep. Luckily for me I was wearing sandals, so it was enough to remove some bigger marsh plants and I could continue the search.

Through sharp, prickly but wet grass I came to a clump of trees. There was a wheat field behind it. I stopped at the edge of crops – the confluence was 26 m away. I noticed a tiny path running across the field and followed it for a dozen or so meters reaching the point 52N59.990’ 15E00.000’. From there I took commemorative pictures. My way back to the car was somewhat different – I circled around marshy meadows, so it was longer but definitely drier.

Doszedłem do (chyba zdziczałej) plantacji porzeczek i jej skrajem dotarłem do rozległej łąki.
