#1: Looking up the coast

(visited by Phil Hatcher)

30-Sep-2002 -- A few weeks ago I found this great site and instantly became interested in the project and decided to join in the fun. There are a limited number of confluences left in Nova Scotia, the two remaining are both off the coast which makes them, in some ways, a bit more of a challenge to get.

46°N 64°’W had been attempted by Dave Heffler on October 27, 2001, making it to within 600m. His directions made it easy to get to the general area just off highway 366. From there I paddled out with the tide (and wind) from a sandy beach just east of the parking lot. There were a number of sea birds on the shallow point that sticks out from the park. I didn’t take me long to get near the confluence but did take a few drifts in the wind and waves to get a photo of the zeros we all like to see.

The paddle in was a bit more work going against the wind, tide, and waves.

The area around Tidnish is very nice, it is just minutes away from the New Brunswick border. Tidnish Bridge and the river are very picturesque. Baie Vert has some beautiful grass inlets worth hiking or paddling some time.

I apologize about the photo quality... it was a combo of bad film, water on the lens and bad focus? Never again.
