19-Apr-2003 -- Unfortunately we were coming towards the end of another 4 wheel drive trip into the wonderful Australian Outback. Our night's camp was made at Farina and we dicovered that there was a confluence nearby.

Bright and early the next morning we were off to Witchelina Station to seek permission to travel to the confluence. The manager was just about to leave for a short holiday, but kindly gave us a few hints and set us on our way.

Fencelines impeded our progress and we could only get to within 800 metres by car. But hey ... there was a confluence to be had!! We then set out across the stoney hillsides, complete with half a million flies on a 30°C day. Recent rains had made the area as good as it gets for grazing sheep, but as can be seen from the photos, there's not much feed to be had. (Annual rainfall in the area is less than 200mm (8 inches) and this often comes in a few heavy thunderstorms.)

We made a small rock cairn on the barren hillside and returned to our 4 wheel drive to continue caching on the way home. On our way out of the property we passed through their machinery graveyard which included a horsedrawn grader.
