13-Mar-2001 -- OK, I was wrong. I admit it, I’m sorry. For a previous attempt on this point I’d used a small scale map that indicated the point was on the western side of Blackdown Tableland. While the scenery was good, the attempt from the east was unsuccessful. I’ve flown over the confluence since and noted a track on the western side that went close to the confluence and thought it might be worth trying.

I was in the area with a little spare time so I set out to find out. I ended up 45 km south of Blackwater a the entrance to a cattle property called Rockland Springs. The gate was 3.5 km from the confluence. Down at the homestead, with 1.7 km to go, I explained the reason for my visit to Sam the owner who came along to show me around.

His property is 10000 hectares at the base of the western cliffs of Blackdown Tableland and just south of a couple of large coal mines. The point is in the middle of a grassy paddock close to the base of the cliffs, not quite where the small scale map showed it. I learned my lesson about maps.

I helped Sam find GPS altitudes for a few points on the property to calculate pump requirements for a pipe he is laying and sped off to catch my plane home.
