23-Jul-2019 --

Paramos o carro a 470 metros do ponto exato e iniciamos a rápida caminhada. Desta vez, meu filho me acompanhou.

This narrative continues from 13S 44W.

We spent the Monday, July 22, in Brasília city. On Tuesday, early in the morning, we left the city and started our trip back home. We caught BR-040 highway and headed up to Paracatu city, where our detour, made in order to visit one more confluence in this trip, started.

We caught MG-198 highway, passed by Guarda-Mor city and, some kilometers after, we turned right and started the dirt road leg, 8.5 kilometers long, which was in excellent condition.

We stopped the car 470 meters to the exact point and started the quick hike. In this visit, my son accompanied me. We followed by a track up to 70 meters to the confluence, when the GPS arrow pointed a forest, like in the previous confluence. In this time, however, the forest wasn’t so dense, and we decided to go ahead. We crossed a fence, entered in the forest and got all GPS zeroes.

This confluence has the interesting feature that it is totally surrounded, in all eight directions, by confluences that I had ever visited.

After the visit, we resumed the trip. When we arrived at the asphalt, I had two options: coming back to Paracatu or taking the opposite direction, aiming to find by south the way back home. The automotive GPS indicated me that, going to south, I would save one hour of trip, in relation to the other way. I decided to rely on the GPS and to follow its suggestion. To my surprise, however, the calculus of the GPS included a 65 kilometers long shortcut by dirt road, from Vazante city up to BR-040 highway.

When I arrived at the beginning of the dirt road, I thought about retreat, but, if I made this, the delay would be even greater. I decided, then, go ahead, hoping that at least part of this leg had been asphalted. My hope didn’t come true, and we needed to face 65 kilometers in dirt road. The condition of the road, on the other hand, was so good that we managed to drive faster than 80 kilometers per hour in some parts.

After the long leg in dirt road, we finally arrived at BR-040 highway. We headed some more kilometers and stopped to have lunch. After the lunch, we went ahead, arriving at Montes Claros city about 19:00.
