#1: The confluence: Gorgeous Mountains

(visited by Tobias Kraudzun and Ellen Nötzel)

08-Sep-2006 -- The confluence looked like easy-to-reach on the map (given usual conditions in the Pamirs). Leaving the transport in Khijez in the Bartang valley, we entered the narrow Ravmedara valley and hiked 18km to village Ravmed, where the valley widens up significantly. After the draggy village we headed N to a smaller side valley. You see the 5-6.000m peaks of Rushan Range in the south.

For reaching the confluence at 3920m it was a breathtaking mount on a steep slope ascending to W. The last 3km after leaving the main valley took us from about 3.100 to 3.920m. The suboptimal coverage on the slope resulted in some repeated running around for catching the very point.

Unfortunately the sun disappeared early behind the hill up the slope, so the light was not very good for fotographs. Beside the photo of the GPS display I have a more convincing evidence: I left my circumpolar lens filter on a stone... :(
