14-Aug-2014 – Nearly one year ago we visited in Yakutia (Siberia) the Confluence Point 67°N u. 110°E. This year some friends of www.taigakanutours.de travelled to Siberia to paddle on the rivers Morkoka and Markha relatively close to the former tour. Walter (the head of the group and owner of the website) had very well organized all belongings and so we arrived within one day in Mirny. The next day we started our canoe trip at the bridge over Morkoka river. Under best weather conditions we stowed our luggage in the canoes and left the civilization behind us.

The first days there was less fish, but with increasing distance from the bridge, the catch rates got better. The days passed quickly and two weeks after departure we were surprised by a flood in the morning. Within minutes we had to move our fireplace three times.  Just imagine what would have happened if the flood would have come up earlier – in the night. The increased water level caused lack of fish and gravel banks. We needed the gravel banks as camping sites and so we had to look for alternatives for building up our tents.

One afternoon we were “close” to the Confluence Point 65°N and 115°E. My was great: this point was "only" 6.6 km away from us! We decided to make the walk. Five very enthusiastic friends made on the way toward, which consisted mainly of animal paths, lichen and moss. There was an intensive mosquito plague. Finally at the destination a SPOT was sent via satellite to the relatives and friends at home. We took a group picture with Arthur, Frank, Rolf, Walter and me and scanned the forest in all directions. We were proud to reach the point and took a photo of the GPS display.

On the way back we found a water hole with crystal clear water, presumably emerged above the permafrost ground, to quench our thirst. No one of us five guys was prepared well for the hike: We had no water with us! After 21.4 km walking in the taiga we were glad to arrive at our camp at midnight. The last two miles we hiked in the darkness.

The next day we were joking about the nightly hike and the hardships, but be sure: We were knackered!

For 2015 it is planned to conquer Arga Sala river. There are four Confluence Points waiting for us!!!
