(visited by Robert Fenske, Jr.)

29-Oct-2004 -- With the threat of drizzle or rain I drove up highway 92 intending to visit this confluence and then hit the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. The confluence is about 11 miles down a road off highway 92. The road ends at the Sherwood Lake Recreation Area. The parking area is on the west side of the Sherwood Lake Reservoir. I quickly found out that the confluence was about a kilometer away, but on the other side of the lake. I had to skirt around the south side of the lake. I started to follow the shoreline but that became too messy as everything was wet and the ground bordering the lake was quite soggy. Moving away from the lake, I eventually found a trail that led up to the small dam that creates the lake. I had to walk in the water a bit as the spillway was too wide for me to jump across. Now on the other side of the lake, I soon left the trail and struck out more or less directly to the confluence. That turned out to be quite a bit of work as I ended up having to go up and down across the wet, hilly terrain. The confluence is deep within the woods, and as the pictures show they are all you can see. I took my usual north, east, south, and west pictures. Heading back I set out in a different direction and got back to the trail much more easily. Still had to soak my shoes again crossing the spillway.
