05-Nov-2004 -- I meet my friend Laurence in Charlotte at about 3:00. The hotel he was staying at was only about 12 miles from the confluence. We started off for the confluence by driving south on I-77. We got off at Celanese Rd. heading west and then turned right on to Mt. Gallant Rd. We found a place to park on this road and headed for the confluence. We knocked on the door of the first house we passed to inquire about who owned the land, but there was no one home. We continued toward the point and as we got to within about a quarter of a mile, we saw a pickup truck driving toward the confluence. The truck stopped and we walked over to the truck. There we found a hunter looking through binoculars. We asked him if he owned the land and he said no, but he rented it for hunting. He told us he was looking for people who were trespassing on the land. We explained why we were on the land and asked if we could go down the trail to the confluence point. He said it would be okay with him. He came with us down to the field. I quickly found the confluence point in the middle of the field, snapped some pictures of the GPS and then took some pictures North, South, East, and West. We didn't stay too long, and we didn't see the pyramid left by the last visitors almost four years ago. From their pictures it seems they found the confluence to be in the middle of the field as I did. Also I noticed that the tree in the very left part of their panorama is the same tree on the very left of my southern picture. As we were leaving, the hunter (I unfortunately forgot his name) offered to drive us to Mt. Gallant Rd. We thanked him for his help, got back to the car and headed back to Charlotte.
