23-Oct-2004 -- We departed from Mexico City on october 22nd 2004 at 8:20 a.m. and arrived into San Luis Potosi at 12:15 p.m., traveling by highway was very comfortable and quick, 20 kilometers before arriving we slowed and took a look ... we were near the confluence but with no access from the highway.
We entered San Luis Potosi and checked-in in a hotel as soon as we recieved the room key we left all things in the room and took a tour to search a path to arrive to the confluence, so we refilled the tank of the car and took the highway back to Mexico city to search for a path to the confluence, we couldn't find a path from the highway, then we took a road to Aguascalientes from the road that connects San Luis Potosi and Aguascalientes we could not find a path or a road to the confluence.
Our principal concern was that the confluence had no path or road to get to it. It is located in "el Cerro del Potosi" (Potosi mountain) a mountain surrounded by many others mountains (cerro del potosi is 2650 meters elevation) all roads and paths we tried were about 10 kilometers from the confluence.
We came back to the hotel and planned to visit the confluence early next day (oct 23 2004), so we departed from San Luis Potosi to a little town named "El Terrero" that is (strait line) at 11 kilometers from the confluence. The first 3.5 kilometers were easy, the problems started when we came to the mountains. We walked around them, avoiding climbs. Every time we avoided a climb we walked a lot, at last we found what we considered the "optimal path" to reach the confluence and after 5 hours climbing and down hills we arrived into 22N 101W.
Thanks to a lesson from our last confluence visit, this time we were better prepared for this visit and we carryed more water, and mosquito/insect repeleant.
22N 101W have a little river near but the travel to the confluence is a desertic zone if you visit it be prepared to start the trip very early, use a lot of sunblock, wear boots, drink a lot of water and use an umbrella to protect from sunlight (I am not joking), also use a semipro backpack (you will need your hands), advance is slow for two reasons: 1)too much rocks on the ground (sometimes hurts in the ankles) and 2)climbing and descending make slow the progress do not try to reach the confluence before 13:00 hours. Temperature on that zone (before climbing el cerro del Potosi) were 100ºF
Night expeditions needs to choose full moon night
Reaching the confluence seems to be easy but it is not. It was very difficult and painful but the sensation of success is greater than the pain.
