English Narrative

03-Oct-2004 -- Confluence hunting is an infectious hobby - once tried, one wants to do it again. My friends, having heard from me about this project, have wished to take part also. The choice has fallen on this confluence, as the nearest primary confluence to the city of Perm. It is located at a distance of 70 km in a straight line. The evening before, Alik Sharifulin, my friend from the University years, and I agreed to visit there in his "devyatka" (Lada car, named after its model number 9, devyat' in Russian).

At 10 a.m. we left on the Perm - Ocher highway. The traffic on Sunday morning was light, we drove almost 80 km per hour, admiring the surrounding landscape. The sky is partly cloudy, the sun, appearing from time to time, "ignites" with gold the crowns of the trees. The Indian summer has already ended, but the leaves have not yet fallen. We passed through the town Krasnokamsk and passed by the town Nytva. It is time to turn onto the country road, in the valley of the river Nytva. We passed through the villages Shumiha and Dubrovino. The farther we get from the highway, the worse the roads and the poorer the villages. According to our map, the village Zelenyata is the closest settlement to the confluence. However we stopped the car about 1 kilometer short of it - the road became impassable for "Lada". It was about three kilometers to the point, as the crow flies. We decided to go on an azimuth and parked the car. It was drizzling and cold. Crossing the new-ploughed field we climbed uphill from the road. Behind a thicket we arrived in a wide clearing for a gas main along which there was a dry forest road in approximately the right direction. For some time we followed it, and then turned off into the forest. When we crossed a ravine, a hunting dog joined us in our walk. But it was here to hunt for something: we saw an elk's dung in the woods. The dog amicably accompanied us through the forest for a rather long time, but eventually picked up the scent and was gone. Later, already at the confluence, we heard the hunter rebuking it. One more ravine, and we are close to the confluence, in an old clearing, which has already become overgrown with young birch trees. As it turned out, the point lies directly on the southern border of the clearing with a dense forest. We took all the necessary photos and at once headed back - Alik was worried about the car. Approximately in 1 kilometer we arrived at a fresh clearing from which the dry forest road goes down directly to the village Zelenyata. This road would be most convenient for the confluence approach. But as the proverb says: "Everybody is wise after the event". Finally we arrived at our car and returned to Perm.
