07-Sep-2004 -- Após a conclusão do I Simpósio de Ciências Geodésicas e Tecnologias da Geoinformação - I SIMGEO, que aconteceu na Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, em Recife, de 1 a 3 de setembro. Convidei minha amiga Simone Sato e o professor da Universidade Estadual Paulista, João Francisco Galera Monico, para conhecerem a praia de Porto de Galinhas, litoral Sul de Pernambuco.

Nesta ocasião, Galera nos falou sobre o Projeto Confluence, ele já havia determinado um ponto no estado de São Paulo. Eu fiquei muito interessada. Quando chequei ao hotel acessei o site e veriquei quais os pontos existentes no estado de Pernambuco. Escolhi o ponto que ficava mais próximo ao Recife, pois Simone teria retornar a São Paulo no dia 7 de setembro. Convidamos nossa amiga Marcia Carneiro, que deriu imediatamente.

No dia 6 de setembro, as três engenheiras cartógrafas, Lucilene e Marcia, formadas pela UFPE, e Simone pela Universidade Federal do Paraná - UFPR, munidas da curiosidade, caracteriística inerente aos pesquisadores, com os equipamentos e mapas necessários,pegamos a estrada. Anoiteceu e dormimos em Garanhuns, uma cidade agradável, localizada a 200km do Recife, e possui aprximadamente 1000m de altitude.

Na manhã do dia 7 de setembro, saímos em direção ao município de Águas Belas, local onde o ponto se encontra. Após sair da rodovia entramos por uma estrada de terra, o primiero local em que paramos possuía as seguintes coordenadas -09º00'53,4" e - 37º00'41,6", fotografamos e seguimos adiante.

Em uma bifurcação mais a frente encontramos dois agricultores, o Sr. José Ferreira da Silva, que retornou a viver na propriedade da familia após 32 anos trabalhando como carpinteiro na cidade de São Paulo; e o Sr. Manuel José dos Santos, de 48 anos, que viveu toda a sua vida sem nunca ter conhecido outras paragens. Juntos trabalhavam no plantio de palma, vegetação típica da caatinga, que no período sêco serve de alimento para os animais. Registramos nossa passagem entrevistando-os e fotografando o local. A localidade chama-se Sítio Mirador do Garcia, as coordenadas foram -09º00'28,1" e -37º00'30,0".

A estrada de terra permitiu que seguíssemos de carro até que encontramos uma área cultivada com mandioca, feijão e algodão. O GPS indicava que estavamos a 300m do nosso alvo, que deveriamos seguir para o Sul. O percurso a pé começou, pulamos uma cerca, atravessamos a plantação, pulamos outra cerca, encontramos um pequeno riacho, e o ponto foi localizado em meio a vegetação rasteira nativa. O horário local era 10:00.

O GPS usado Garmin 12 captava o sinal de 14 satélites, com EPE de 3,00m. A altitude do ponto detectada foi de 489m.

A nossa aventura foi concluída no povoado Bela Vista, município de Iati, na lanchonete Padre Cícero, onde conhecemos o Sr. Manuel Arnaldo Bezerra de Albuquerque e sua esposa Elenilda Guimarães de Albuquerque, proprietários do estabelecimento comercial. No sertão nordestino vive uma gente boa, simples e muito hospitaleira. As útimas coordenadas foram -09º00'31,2" e - 36º52'03,9".

A adesão ao Projeto Confluence introduziu um lado lúdico ao encerramento do I SIMGEO, encontro que reuniu professores, pesquisadores, profissionais e estudantes das áreas de Cartografia, Cadastro, Geodésia, Fotogrametria e Sensoriamento Remoto, do Brasil e exterior.

07-Sep-2004 -- After the conclusion of the I Symposium of Geodesic Sciences and Technologies of the Geoinformation – I SIMGEO, that took place in the Federal University of Pernambuco - UFPE, in Recife, September 1-3. I invited my friend Simone Sato, and the professor of the São Paulo State University - UNESP, João Francisco Galera Monico, to visit Porto de Galinhas beach , Southern coast of Pernambuco, in Northeast Brazil.

In this occasion, Galera shared with us information about the Confluence Project; he already had found one point, in the state of São Paulo, Southeast of Brazil. I was very interested. When I returned to the hotel I accessed the Project site , I verified the existing points in the state of Pernambuco. I chose the point that was next to Recife, because Simone would return to São Paulo on September 7th. We invited our friend Marcia Carneiro, who adhered immediatelly.

On September 6th, the three cartograph engineers , Lucilene and Marcia, from the UFPE, and Simone, from the Federal University of Paraná - UFPR, Southern Brazil, armed wiht curiosity, inherent characteristic of research people, and the necessary equipment and maps, took the road. It got dark before arriving at the place; we slept in the city of Garanhuns, pleasant place, located 200km of Recife, whose average altitude is of 1.000m.

In the morning 7 of September, we leave in direction to Águas Belas city, where the point is located. After we leave the highway, we to enter will be land road. The first stopped following coordinate -09º00'53.4 "and - 37º00'41.6", we did take pictures and continues.

In bifurcation lives the front, we find two agriculturists, Mr. Jose Ferreira da Silva, he returned to live in the property of the family after 32 years has worked to carpenter in the city of São Paulo; and Mr. Manuel Jose Dos Santos, of 48 years, that all lived its life in the region. Together they worked in the palm plantation, typical vegetation of caatinga, that in the arid period serves of food will be the animals. We to register with interview and did take pictures the meeting. In this place, called Sítio Mirador do Gracia, the coordinates had been -09º00'28.1 "and -37º00'30.0".

The land road allowed that we continued to follow by car, until finding a cultivated area with manioc, beans and cotton. We stopped and the GPS indicated that our objective was about 300 meters, South direction. We did take a picture in the direction of the point. Here, we needed go on foot, we leapt wire fence first, we did cross the plantation, we leapt wire fence another one, we did find small stream, and in vegetation native tripping we determines the place of the point.

The GPS uses was Garmin 12, the place hour was 10:00 AM, caught signal of 14 satellites, with EPE of 3,00m. The detected altitude was of 489m. We did take some pictures and registers, with much joy, our conquest.

Our adventure finished in the town of Bela Vista, city of Iati. We stopped in the snack bar Padre Cícero, where we knew Mr. Manuel Arnaldo Bezerra de Albuquerque and his wife Elenilda Guimarães de Albuquerque proprietors of the commercial establishment. The inhabitants on the place are good, simple and very hospitable people. The last definitive coordinates showed that we were in the latitude -09º00'31.2 "and the longitude - 36º52'03.9", were 11:00 AM.

The adhesion at the Confluence Project was form to introduce playful side to closing of the I SIMGEO, meeting that congregated professors, researchers, professionals and students of the areas of Cartography, Cadastre, Topography, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, of the Brazil and others countries.
