#1: General view of the area

(visited by Birgit Herbers, Michael Deppner and Lucy the Dog)

05-Sep-2004 -- Hi, I’m Lucy the Dog and I visited today with my owners Birgit and Michael our second confluence point. Since we were in the region, visiting friends near Tábua, Michael and Birgit decided to check 40N-008W, where the first visitor got too late to take any conclusive pictures.
On our way we passed through the beautiful “Serra do Açor”. With the good way description of the first visitors printed out, we drove to Pampilhosa da Serra and Birgit and Michael had lunch in the restaurant at the City Swim Hall (many choices, good prices, good portions, great food!). They brought me some leftovers in the doggy bag, which I gladly devoured.

We followed the “Amoreira” sign on road 344 until we reached the “Travessa” sign as indicated and turned left. But instead of a dirt track it was a brand-new tarmac road maybe done just a couple of weeks or even days ago.

We stopped the car on 40N and headed west into the newly planted Eucalyptus plantation. It took Michael a while to find the spot, jumping and climbing up and down the freshly bulldozed terraces. I enjoyed this very much and when they found the final 40N-008W CP, I had to sit there functioning as a point indicator. Couldn’t wait to run off again, really. Well, they seemed to be happy with the picture they took and I left them to take as many more pictures as they liked. There should be documented at least the GPS reading and the view in all 4 directions, so I’m told.

Back on the road Birgit noticed the missing GPS; so Michael went back to the all look-a-like young trees to find the precious device. Well, I would have found, hm – smelled it, – right away, but for him it wasn’t so easy.

We’re aiming for the 39N-008W and leave quickly after we got everything together, also the forgotten GPS. Hopefully they don’t forget me on one of their journeys through Portugal…
