26-Jun-2004 -- Ukraine is the centre of Europe, but Tsherkas region is the heart of Ukraine. Here the name of every village bears the spirit of Cossacks, proud love of freedom, overlooking the borders of their country where to send off the next conquer. Cossack’s Tshaykas passed everywhere, in Turkey and Moscow, in Polish and Tatar’s lands, often unnoticed; only cane pipes were slightly visible over the water. They were not attracted by foreign places; they paid attention not only to their own territory but also to remote countries. “Cossacks praised on the way to Uman, ”We would tear reach’s garments into rags.” Cossacks returned satisfied and loaded with treasures. Zolotonosha ("wear the gold" is the formal translation of this town' name) greeted the conqueror.
It is understandable that these places attracted us to the next visit this confluence point. The feeling of togetherness kept us busy. Our success was result of Evgeniy’s moral support, even though he looked reproachfully at us from time to time.
That’s why we asked Evgeniy “Would you like to be the third?” early morning on Saturday, June 23 and headed to new adventures.
The first discover was “Wheat Beer Etalon.” The higher ups of Bavaria discovered it earlier, but for us it was the first acquaintance with high technology and deepness of the taste. Inspired by the first success, in the Zvenigorodka town we stored with beer with complicated romantic names such as 997, Getmanske, Zhigulivske hoping to squeeze a tear of memories, perhaps about school years or maybe about lost country. But alas, the glory of Cossacs remained in history, and their gold disappeared in European fog. Instead, the gray mist of modern consumer technologies covered all uniqueness of acquired beer; besides the tags every sort of beer tasted the same.
The second discovery was mountains and even waterfalls in the heart of Ukraine. Passing from Kiev to Odessa I always thought why the river in Tsherkass region is named Mountain Tikitch (certainly, I didn’t have any questions about Tikitch, but why is it Mountain?). Suddenly, after we turned, the scenery of waterfall cutting rocky cliffs appeared in front of us. Middle sized, (and where would the large waterfall appear in the valley?), nevertheless impressive, its unexpected presence raised the dreams that the gunpowder in a powder-flask is still dry. But in reality, it was possible to cross the river not making the feet wet.
Subsequent discovery was proved by artistic photo of poppy’s blossoms in the fields of hemp. We are not publishing this photo due to reasonable causes because our site doesn’t pursue an advertising purpose.
Finally, we are at our destination and we are in luck. Tsherkass region as it was previously mentioned is the heart of Ukraine. It is heavily populated area that doesn’t look like mosquitoes swamps of Polissya. That is why the asphalt road led us almost to our point, to be exact, to almost clover field where our aim was. The exercise was not as difficult as walking in the park. The excellent windless and sunny weather supported the pleasure of walk. Reliable Etrex let us followed practically each step. The heavy populated and industrial surrounding reminded about it by pipes of some factories directed to three ways of the world. However, near very point, edges of the forest line fortunately covered the urbanism and it is possible to see the widespread fertile fields on the photos.
Final discovery that did take place was the homey Shevtshenko village some ten of kilometers of confluence place. This village would be possible to discover on the tip of the feather pen such as Pluto planet, simply deductively. Where else if not near the heart of Ukraine it would be possible to find its talented and senseless soul?
