#1: The confluence

(visited by Tomas Tomasson and Kristín Harðardóttir)

21-Jul-2004 -- We visited this confluence on our way across Sprengisandur and the highland from west to east to Askja. It is less than one km walk from the "road". Someone seems to have been on this spot before us because there was a small pile of stones within five meters from the confluence as we surveyed it.

Coordinator's Note: The first visit was just 8 days previously, but they have told me that they did not make a cairn. A third party must therefore have been to the spot in the meantime.

Since the first visitors used a GPS with just 1 arc-second (i.e. 30 m) resolution in the north-south direction, it is also possible that the cairn was already there, but that they missed seeing it!
