#1: Looking at the point (Standing 1700 meters away)

(visited by Stephen Egge and Teresa Wolff)

25-Nov-2003 -- After coming within 250m of 25°N 122°E) on the east coast of Tawian we drove to the west cost in hopes of better weather. Super Typhoon Lupit was some way off the east coast of Taiwan and although we weren't suffering from terrible weather the waves were at 3 meters and the wind 30 - 40 knots gusting to 50. We hoped this point would be calmer and would be more protected. It wasn't, it was worse. The point was 1700 meters off-shore. Terry got the kayak ready but better judgement prevailed. She'll try again later when the weather is calmer.

  Notes
In the sea, just 1 ½ km offshore. Closest piece of land is the tip of a jetty protecting the entrance to a small harbour.
