  32°S 59°W (visit #1)

#1: View to the North

(visited by Captain Peter and Werner Furlan)

24-Oct-2003 -- After having visited 31°S / 58°W near the Río Uruguay we drove back to the state road 14 and bent South in direction Concordia. Shortly after we took the provincal road nr. 18 to Villaguay in order to visit our last confluence in Argentina.

The confluence lies about 15 km South of Villaguay. From Villaguay we took the provincial road nr. 20 in direction Villa Dominguez, being only a dirt road. Exactly as mapped, we had to pass two bridges. The first bridge was over a fairly wide arroyo, the second one, was smaller and exactly on latitude 32°S.

After having passed the bridge we stopped the car and walked for about 1,400 metres into an already harvested field.

We attach the views towards North, East, South and West.

We did not find much there, except for some rare blue flowers.

After this visit we drove back to Villaguay, where we checked in at the "Hotel Casagrande", built in old German rural style.

This was our 20th and last visit on our 12 days tour through Argentina.

Only one thing was left to do: When driving back South to Buenos Aires the next day we stopped on route nr. 14 exactly on latitude 33ºS, for having a bottle of the famous Argentine "Latitud 33" wine, and we took a picture of our confluence hunting equipment there as well.

When we started our confluence tour on Oct. 12th at the Airport of Buenos Aires we reset the km-counter of our car to zero. Arrived back at the airport, we have driven exactly 5,009 km! We have visited four Provinces (Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Santa Fé and Entre Ríos) and the following points:

It is now the time to thank all the people in Argentina who helped us with their information about local features and habits and for their useful hints. Argentina is an ideal confluence-country. Everybody is friendly and of excellent manners, there is virtually no criminlality, and we had never had a single problem anywhere.

I will certainly be back in Argentina with my ship soon, for loading fish or fruits, and, seen the many unvisited confluences remaining, on a confluence tour again - hopefully already next year.

Marcharse es morir un poco;
pero es tan dulce volver
que dan ganas de marcharse
para venir otra vez.

Gracias y hasta más ver, Argentina!
