#1: Looking North from the confluence point

(visited by Kenneth Girodias)

18-Oct-2003 -- My family and I were in the western part of North Carolina for a long weekend. In the afternoon, my wife wanted to go to Whitewater Falls which is on route 281 on the border of South Carolina. Looking at the map we had, I saw from the latitude and longitude marks that we were very close to the 35-83 confluence point. When we got to the parking lot for the falls, I plugged in the coordinates for the confluence point on my GPS and found that we were just over 2 miles away. The parking lot for the falls was completely filled, so I suggested that we go to the confluence point. We got back on 281 and headed south until we got to the gate for the Duke Power - Bad Creek Pumped Storage Station. Route 281 becomes S.C. Highway 130. Like the last visitors, we drove up to the gate and it opened up. We drove through and headed for the confluence. On the way, there were some nice views of the Bad Creek Reservoir on the right. This is a very easy confluence as the point is right on the road! We drove until we went a little past the point. I got out of the car and found the point by getting all the zeros on the GPS. The point was just on the right side of the road when facing north. I then took pictures in the approximate north, south, east and west directions. Not much has changed from the last visit, in fact my pictures look almost exactly the same as the last visit except for the fact that it was a great sunny fall day. We then headed back to Whitewater Falls.
