#1: Looking southeast from the confluence

(visited by Donna Weston)

01-Sep-2003 -- Something to do in your lunch-break - visit a confluence!

32°S 116°E is my closest confluence, and I have absolutely no excuse for not visiting it years ago. It's in the middle of the fairway of the 16th hole at Hartfield Country Club golf course in Forrestfield, a southeastern suburb of Perth. I actually visited the Club House on Saturday to ask about wandering over the course but there was a tournament on - little white projectiles flying all over the place at high speed - and access for non-players was a no-no, so I arranged to come back on a quieter day.

The areas between fairways are all native plants - both remnant bush and planted gardens - and the first day of Spring here was just beautiful. Confluencing seemed a much more interesting way to spend lunchtime than playing golf like others on the course.

The blackboys (Xanthorrhea) mentioned by previous visitors are all along the edges of the fairways and in the bush areas, as are kangaroo paws (Anigozanthus) which have just come into flower.

Coordinator's Note: Potential visitors to this confluence are welcome, but MUST ask permission of the Managers of Hartfield Country Club BEFORE going onto the course. Flying golfballs can be dangerous!
