15-Jul-2003 -- German narrative After a short visit with the Dobbert family, 45 km north of Orsa in middle Sweden, who has founded a bakery and a tourist camp in the little town of Rosentorp, I started out again.

From their position (N 61° 23. 310 - E 14° 55. 260) I drove north, passing Sveg on B 84, in the direction of Røros in Norway. In the first town past the border, which is called Brekken, I switched to B 705, which took me all the way to Stugudal.

The confluence point I was aiming for is located in the Nesjøen lake. An about 15 km long gravel-road lead me from Stugudal over a mountain plateau to this lake. The small road ends by a little fishing & boating camp.

My starting position from the shore was N 62° 57. 915 - E 12° 04.762, which meant I had about 6 km on the water, in a northwesterly direction, ahead of me.

This time I had a bigger, slightly motorized catamaran with me and my initial plan was to make it easily and without strain in about 20 minutes. But unfortunately I had to give up my plans because an inflatable tube didn´t do what it was supposed to do: stay sealed ( problems with the valves )!!!

So, once again I moved on with my little mini-cat (see 70°N-28°E), paddling along, and this time on a long-distance track. The conditions were perfect: Windless and warm: Air temp 25°C, water temp 15°C.

Starting time: 4.45 p.m. Wearing a hat and using sunscreen-lotion became absolutely necessary because of the lake´s relatively high level. I moved slowly and sluggishly. It wasn´t possible to to make more than 2 to 3 kilometers an hour.

Shortly after 7 p.m. I reached the point, where I allowed myself an extented break to stretch my legs that had fallen asleep. I paddled back in slow motion after I had taken the photos. At about 10 p.m. I was back at the shore.

Getting off the boat was more difficult than I anticipated it to be. I couldn´t get off! I simply couldn´t do it! I had cramps in both legs and so I carefully rolled off the boat. A slightly embarassing situation!

This trip was simply too long for this small boat. Test over - new ideas needed for any future tours.

Nevertheless I enjoyed gymnastics, food, beverages and of course the sunset. Nesjøen lake is like many other lakes at the norwegian / swedish border, used as a reservoir (with a volume of 582 million m³) for producing hydro-electric energy. It flows in a combination of a tunnel-system and other lakes to the west, to Trondheim and eventually into the ocean.
