#1: South from confluence

(visited by Garry Hartnell)

14-Oct-2002 -- On the morning of October 14, 2002 Thanksgiving Monday, my son-in-law and I went to find this confluence. For the last two weekends I had planned to find it, but both times the weather was poor.

This morning we left the house and travelled west along the north side of francois lake and around the head of the lake to the south side. We then travelled south untill we came to francois west forestry road and turned on and headed east untill we came to tatalrose road. We continued east untill we came to a farm that was between us and the coordinates. This location had four silos standing on the north side of the road.

We then turned around and headed back west a short distance untill we came to McDonnald landing road. We turned on and headed north on this road untill we came to with in 1.8 km of the coordinates. We turned around and parked the truck. We were going to bushwack it.

After starting we soon found a old overgrown skid trail and followed it in the general direction. We then turned off into the timber and headed directly to the confluence. As we got closer the terrain opened up and we came to a small old cut block. On the edge and just in the timber was our location which we easily found.

The location was right on top of a blown down pine tree. The time was 12:05. I took photos of the general terrain, GPS and directions N,S,W and east.

While I was doing this I told Kevin to go look and see what was over the hill to the east. ( A weak spot I have, just have to see whats over the next hill ). I called him on the radio and he said he was standing on a nice logging Road. I could'nt believe it, I had to go have a look.

We walked south on this road and came to a 7 Km board. We came out onto the road at 7.5 Km. We then back tracked to the truck and drove back past the farm with the silos and kept going untill we came to the Tatalrose north forest service road. We looked at each other and laughed. We then headed for home. We would come back another time and go in from this way.

Well, developed the photos and none turned out. My wife and I went back on October 19th with a digital camera and these are the photos that I have submitted. We went in this time from Tatalrose north forestry road and guess what??? The gate was locked @ 4 Km. We hiked the remaining 3.5 Km on a good road, any one else coming in bring your bike. My prefrence was the bushwack the first time in.
