31-Aug-2002 -- Continued from 29S 27E.

After visiting 29S 27E we travelled to Ficksburg and filled up with petrol. Crossing the border into Lesotho at Maputsoe proved to be easy. From there we took the road to Bela-Bela via Corn Exchange. We managed to drive to within 20 meters of the Confluence, after crossing a river and driving up a hill on little used jeep tracks, reaching it just before one o'clock.

The 29S 28E confluence turned out to be just inside a small freshly planted mealie field. We asked Lerato, the owner of the field, whether we could step into the field. He couldn't understand why, but indicated we were welcome to do so. After taking the necessary photographs, we were on our way again to Katse dam via Pitseng where we intended staying the night. The dam forms part of a big scheme to supply water to the cities in Gauteng. The road is a fantastic newly tarred road which crosses several passes, the highest at 3100 m.

Continued at 30S 29E.
