#1: General view of the area

(visited by Stan and Dawson)

30-Jun-2002 -- This Confluence is near the small town of Piet Retief, where we all live at present. We are members of Mahamba Wild Adventure Club and this Confluence Project fits nicely within our activities. To get to 27S 31E we have to cross the border to Swaziland and go on to Gege.

Gege is a very small rural town with a couple of basic shops, delapitated garage and a new police station. There is no paved road in or around town; the nearest one is 20 km away.

We know this area well, one of our favorite mountain bike trails runs just 200 m from the spot. The Confluence is in the yard of this dwelling. This is the only dwelling in the area. Note the white cock in the pictures. He and the hens are feeding on breadcrumbs we placed exactly at 27S 31E.

The fact that we had visited the confluence first should not discourage you to visit it, too. This must be one of the more interesting Confluences, both to get there and to be there. The occupants of the house are quite friendly and let you roam all around the property. For a couple of dollars they will even let you sleep there. They speak good English and like to talk to strangers. If you want to see inside furnishings, check pictures of Kitchen and Dining room.
