11-Feb-2001 -- We heard about the Degree Confluence Project, and we found out that in our country, there are 3 confluences. We decided to get this as the first one, since it looked as the easiest one, because it was near the shores of Miches.

Mr. Mario Berges bought the topographical maps, and some aerial pictures of the confluence, so we were all set. We arranged a 2 day trip, to go there, sleep in tents, and the next morning go out to find it. We got out of our city (Santo Domingo, the capital of the country) at about 12 at noon under very heavy rain. The 250 km ride, turned out to be a 6:30 hour ride, cause some rodes weren't even asphalted. We got there in two SUV's, and we rode about 4 km in the sand, going all along the beach. We found a place to camp about 30 meters from the water, we were just about 200 meters from the confluence! but it was dark, and we waited till the next morning. We placed our camp there, it was a wonderful experience.

When we woke up, we packed up all the things and followed a road that seemed to go right thru the confluence. 200 metes, 150, 120, 110, 90, 95, stop, we went back, and it pointed right thru a small forest, we thought we were almost there, but that 90 meters took us almost an hour, with an axe and a big group of guys. An hour later there we were!

We were so proud, it was 8:30 am ! We took pictures of the whole group, and 8 pictures of the compass directions. We hope to find the two other confluences.
