02-Feb-2002 -- Yesterday saw two succesful visits; a revisit to 30N 97W and a first time visit to 29N 98W. I am heading out West and will be passing the vicinity of 29N 99W.
I tried to loop around the South of the confluence point and strike off up the numerous County Roads leading in the right direction.
Unfortunately every one I tried ended in a locked and barred gate, most of which also had notices posted No Trespassing.
Or had high fences bearing interesting warning notices (Pic 1) and (Pic 2) at 28D 54M 16.1S / 98D 53M 42S
I found a cemetery ( 28D 55M 29.2S / 98D 59M 15.2S) which housed among its other occupants an old soldier (Pic 3); unfortunately the local presumably younger population didn't seem to have much respect for the place (Pic 4). This was about 4 miles from the point.
One particular family were very unlucky, losing three children at 10 months, 2yrs and 12yrs (Pic 5)
Skirting around it to the West and North along US35 was a solid wall of fence/scrub/railroad. The occasional crossing again being barred and posted.
Chalk this one up as an attempted and on to 29N 100W; this one has not even been attempted.
