#1: General view of the area towards East

(visited by Lars Svensson, Steve Smith, Florah Svensson, Rachel Bird and Roger Steadman)

03-Feb-2002 -- An attempt to reach the Confluence was made on 02-Feb-2002 but had to be cancelled as daylight was running out. The successful visit was made the following day.

There is a small village nearby (Kilibasi). Numerous tracks used for smuggling in and out of Tanzania, poaching and charcoal burning are in the area. We were able to drive to within 100 meters where we unfortunately managed to blow a tyre on a tree stump.

We had spent the night at TDC (Tsavo Discovery Centre), which is a base for conservation work for the area. There is plenty of wildlife in the area, although the animals are often not visible due to the dense shrub and forest. We were lucky to see Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Baboon and several types of Gazelle and Antelope.
