#1: Looking North

(visited by Harvey Hasiuk)

09-Jan-2002 -- This confluence is quite near my home so I decided to pay a visit. After crossing the North Saskatchewan River I found a country road near the confluence and followed it north until I reached latitude 54 00 000N. From this point the confluence is located 0.65 Km East. A short walk across a snow-covered wheat stubble field brought me to a point still 0.24 Km West of my goal. Now the terrain changed to a forest of aspen trees. I found the confluence in this forest, as the pictures show.

This location appears to be east of one reported by a previous visitor, so to check my work I drove around the quarter section to a road on the east side of the confluence and travelled south to 54 00 00N again. Now the GPS showed the confluence to be 0.97 Km west of my position. This checks out reasonably well, as the roads that run north and south are 1 mile or 1.6 Km apart, and 0.65 Km and 0.97 Km add up to 1.62 Km.

While looking for the confluence I took a few pictures in the area. There are grain farms and cattle farms here.
