#1: General view toward east, our Campervan in the back

(visited by Jean-Michel Weil)

26-Sep-2001 -- During our recent visit to the “down under” continent we were travelling with our hired camper van on the Stuart Highway from Alice Springs northward, toward Darwin. Most of the confluence points in this area are not yet visited because they are not reachable without an off-road vehicle. Fortunately there is a confluence degree closed to a paved road, near to the Litchfield National Park located 2 hours away from Darwin.

We had planned to visit it on the 26 of September 2001. Only now, two month later after our return at home, in France, we have the opportunity to send the data for registration.

The park has two access roads, one from north, the second one from east through the small town of Bachelor. We used this entrance as it has the only sealed road. Soon after Bachelor, near to the park entrance, at a point called “Rum Jungle”, the road passes at 300m of the targeted point. The area there is not flat, but a small unsealed road toward north, allows to park the vehicle at 50m of the destination. The temperature was relatively high already at 1:50 PM on this sunny afternoon, 37°Celsius. The bush was recently burned, so that the access was very easy. Another area in the neighbourhood was still burning.

The GPS accuracy was 5m. The altitude displayed was around 96m.

Points of interest in the area: As shown on the other pictures, the journey was continuing with the visit of the Litchfield National Park, with large fields of termite hills and with its 4 wonderful waterfalls surrounded by green tropical rainforest. Like at the Florence falls, 18km after the main entrance, several natural pools invite you to a refreshing bath even during the dry.
