#1: Confluence out in a field

(visited by Hans Augdoppler)

09-Sep-2001 -- Coming from 42°N 14°E on my way back to Taranto I left the ‘Autostrade’ A1 at Capua and then continued on the SS264/SS7QUATER in direction Naples up to the exit SS7BIS Dir. While on the exit ramp I had already a reading as close a ~60 m. There was no change to stop and so I turned back onto the ramp. This was a mistake because I had to enter the highway SS7QUATER again with no change to turn back.

After driving for approximately 25 km I was back on the exit ramp as half a hour before. Then I turned left at the end of the ramp. Just a few meters away an agricultural bumpy dirt road directed me towards the spot (see map). I parked the car as close as ~50 m and just walked this distance. The CP is located in some kind of clover seed field.

I mounted the confluence plate on a column of the partly destroyed fence toward the exit ramp. This sign may observed from the ramp while passing it. Since this area is some kind of swamp huge amounts of mosquitoes were on attack. They really love me and discover each uncovered part of skin J.

Note: Do not waste your money to buy a map from ‘Istituto Geografico DeAgostini’. The reality looks a bit different, just the name sounds competent – see map.
