(visited by Jan Krogh and Antanas Ðarpnickas)

05-Sep-2001 -- This confluence was a really exciting experience. Returning home to Vilnius from a business trip I decided to do the N56°E22° confluence. The weather was nice, sunny and about 22°C. The location is eight km eastnortheast of the small town of Plunge, just north of the village of Grumbliai. Further I passed the Kulskiai farmstead and parked the car where a forest road is being penetrated by the 56th degree. The GSP told me I had 600 meters to walk, so I took the short cut and started to walk through the forest. The first 200 meters were fine, a lot of nice mushrooms and singing birds. But, suddently being busy with the GSP I found myself sinking into a quagmire! I threw the camera bag on safe land, and started to toil towards a root sticking out from the ground. Tired and soaking wet I was glad to ascertain that the GSP was fine, telling me to continue further east. Trapped in between a lot of brooks, finally I found a way out through more dense forest. In this middle of nowhere I observed a man working at a small field! He was as surprised as me. We shook hands, and he told me he was Mr. Antanas Ðarpnickas, growing carrots there. I explained what I was up to, and I think he understood me... The confluence was only 50 meters from his carrot field. We jumped over one more brook, and finally there I was. After the photo shots I took the long, but safe, way back to my car where I could change to dry clothes.
