#1: Confluence point (yellow flower)

(visited by Tim Dinsdale)

06-Aug-2001 -- I took a trip to Quesnel to visit my parents, and noted that there was a confluence point just off the highway to the East of Quesnel. I brought my parents up to speed on confluence hunting, and they were in to it.

We headed out on the Nazko Highway just past Puntchesakut Lake with my shiny new GPS. The highway actually comes within about 650m of the confluence point. We turned off on a logging road, but couldn't get any closer to the point. We prepared for a quick overland hike. We had a bit of a steep downwards section to start, then jumped over a small creek. The rest of the walk was very nice, open lodgepole pine forest, a beautiful hike, actually. One thing which was in evidence was the bark beetle epidemic. Many trees are chewed up and dying in this area, which does not bode well for the forests, and the forest industry. You can see a few such trees in the confluence picture. We got there with no problems, and took a few pictures. The confluence is approximately in the location of the little yellow flower in the bottom left corner of the photo.

The guy with the moustache is my dad, Jeff. He is standing directly on the confluence. The group photo was taken back at the car, and shows (L-R) my fiance (now wife) Kirsten, my dad Jeff, myself, and my mom, Marg.

After the visit we headed for nearby Sylvia's Cafe for refreshments, then went canoeing at Puntchesakut Lake. A very nice day!
