  49°N 18°E (visit #2)

#1: Confluence a few meters within birch trees

(visited by Hans Augdoppler)

21-Jun-2001 -- On our way to the High Tatras Mountains we decided to go to 49°N 18°E as second visitor. We crossed the border to the Slovak Republic on the route from Brno to Trenčín with some delay due to sluggish dispatching by the Slovakian border officials.

Via the White Carpathians [Biele Karpaty] we passed trough the valley of Horná Súča and finally our journey ended at the outskirt of the mountain village of Repákovci. We could already see the clearing in direction north west (pic#3). The passable road ended at a weekend house at the boundary of a beech forest. From there on we had to walk a few hundred meters (pic#4).

We left the beech forest and walked up the meadow (pic#5). As we came close to the confluence we saw fresh footprints in the high grass. We were sure, that somebody else visited the place just on this day. We located the exact position about 10 m inside a small birch forest.

We are still looking forward to the 2nd visitor – a secret? Then we continued to the east, to High Tatras, to 49°N 19°E. See more pictures at http://www.fortunecity.de/arbeit/medien/748/Confluence/49N18EE.htm.
