#1: The area

(visited by netrunner and Mister Saigon)

15-May-2001 -- This was the second confluence I visited on my trip to Italy and the third one I wanted to. Having only a 1:4,600,000 map of Europe, I miscalculated 44N 10E to lie at the east coast of Italy. In fact it lies about 5 kilometres into the Adriatic (viewed to the west from Marina de Carrara).

With no sign of frustration we headed to 43N 11E the next day. There we found the most straining confluence. We drove on a private road near to a house. No people around, only a car with an open backdoor stood there. We were about 300 metres close to the confluence so we parked there and began to make our way through the forest.

But the forest was only the outer show. What we found there were Italy’s most evil bushes and thorns and trees we ever had encountered.

It took us about 2 hours to get to the confluence, and another half to persuade the Garmin to show exactly the confluence. It was somehow nonsense to put a mark there, there were too many trees aound. So I placed my dog there for you to see the position.

Moving was not easy there. Returning to our car we were all bloddy and our clothes ripped (my father more than me, he wanted to go first for his higher military rank of a captain). Only our dog has had its most fun, because it is too small for the evil thorn traps.

Oh – to secondary visitors: There is a private road that leads almost 20 meters near to the confluence… would perhaps be less dangerous for you. The owner of the house where we parked put a sheet of paper on our car with a warning message in case of return. Have fun! ;)
