09-May-2001 -- I first read about the confluence project on board a business flight, thought this could be interesting. After a little research on the web, I looked up a few confluences and put the coordinates to several in my GPS.
On May 9th I was traveling to Van Buren, Maine as part of my work when I observed that I was very close to 47-68 and with the help of an atlas was able to drive about 225' from the exact spot.
This area in the heart of Maine's potato crop land and sure enough the confluence is in a potato field and within the borders of Connor, Maine. I stuck a stick with 2 ribbons on the spot for my photographs, which were taken facing the 4 major compass points. As easy as it was to get to this confluence it was never the less exciting. According to my GPS, Caribou, Maine is 9.7 miles away. The confluence is only 1.3 driving miles east of US #1. I'm hooked and will go after more. I was alone on this journey on May 9, 2001.
