07-Mar-2001 -- While kayaking and hiking in southern Baja this spring, we decided to attempt another confluence. Ross Finlayson previously visited this one in Jan/2001 and correctly describes the dense cactus guarding this one area (cholla, ocotillo, cardon, etc.). We were able to drive dirt roads to about 0.3m S of the confluence then used our GPS unit to direct our circuitous route through the cactus terrain.

Arriving at the confluence site, we put on our humorous "summitware" and took the obligatory photos. Note that we're not providing the terrain photos with this report since Ross did a good job documenting that in his first report. (Also, our GPS unit does, in fact, show our arrival at the confluence, but the photo isn't detailed enough to see that.)

After spending some time pulling out extraneous cactus needles, we continued south and visited the Tropic of Cancer on route 1 in southern Baja. It is marked by a large white concrete ball (see photo) and a small shrine and bar.
