(visited by Ross Finlayson)

01-Oct-2015 -- This was a fun confluence visit; I did it as an ‘out-and-back’ drive from Las Cruces, NM. After passing through Deming on I-10, I made a quick visit to the (IMHO, overhyped) town of Silver City. I then backtracked to pass the impressive looking Chino Copper Mine (one of the world’s largest open pit mines), and then turned onto state highway 35 to enter the scenic and sleepy Mimbres Valley.

From highway 35, I turned onto McKnight Road, and then Powderhorn Ridge Road, then - at 32.94926°N 108.01827°W, about 3.5 miles from the point - I passed through a farm gate to enter the 4WD road that runs along the creek bed.

I had been prepared to ride my mountain bike the entire 3.5 miles (each way), but I found that I could drive my 4WD SUV several miles along the road. After completing 6 creek crossings, however, I decided that I was pushing my luck by trying to drive any farther, so I parked - about 1.8 miles from the point - and rode my mountain bike the rest of the way (making several more creek crossings along the way).

The confluence point lies less than 200 feet from the creek bed, in grassland, with small pine trees growing nearby. A small rock cairn (grumble...) left by a previous visitor marks the point.
