#1: The Confluence from 5 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz)

08-Feb-2015 -- I extended a business trip to Berlin scheduled on Friday over the weekend. On Sunday early morning at 6 AM while my hosts were still sleeping I left their house and took the 6:33 AM train from Berlin main station to the historic town of Angermünde in the Uckermark region.

After a train ride of 50 minutes, my train reached the station in Angermünde, which is 2.3 km walking distance from the confluence point. Right at sunrise, I reached the parking lot of the Bundespolizei. The question was whether I should first go inside and ask for permission to take pictures or just take the pictures and see what happens. I decided to do the latter, because asking might not have lead to a permission to take pictures such that the result would have been that I would have to leave empty-handed. Therefore I went on the parking lot and took the pictures quickly (good decision).

Right after finishing up the documentation, I met a policewoman in front of the entrance of the police station. "What I was doing there?" she asked. When I answered that I was taking pictures, she was seemingly indignant and invited me to come inside. "This man was taking pictures in our parking lot" – the colleagues inside got even more indignant and an interrogation began.

What saved me was one of the colleagues, who suddenly appeared and said that "This man is telling the truth. There is a special geographical point on our parking lot. Another visitor had once shown it to me". Now I was saved from the interrogation and registration.

Before I took my return journey to Berlin, I walked through the old town of Angermünde where most, but not all houses are renovated. I took the 8:31 AM train back to Berlin. On my walk back to my friends I bought fresh rolls for breakfast and when I arrived at their house, I found them still in bed!
