#1: Toward the point - behind the fence

(visited by David Coombs and Kate Johnson)

05-Jan-2014 -- After a gap of over 2 years I decided that it was time to visit another point. This one has been described as the easiest in the Caribbean and this may be correct but it is always possible to have a little excitement from the simplest of visits! We were the 6th visitors to the point and the 1st to have arrived in St Lucia by air. We were staying at Marigot bay 15 km to the South and our visit to the point took us directly past the point. We first went to say hello to the dogs at the front entrance to the villa - but they were no friendlier than previously described and there was no other sign of life there. The front gate is 33 metres from the point.

We then went round to the south side where there is a National Trust park to preserve the Apostles Battery (as there were 4 large gun emplacements). The actual cannons have been removed. I walked up to the park but due to the recent heavy rain the slope was very slippery and I soon slid back down covering myself, my camera, and GPS with mud. Having found an easier point to approach I got up to the gun emplacements and found that I was 27 metres from the point. I could probably have got to within 15 metres if I had gone to the fence but it looked steep and slippery so decided against it.

From the point we went on to visit Castries and Rodney bay before returning to Marigot Bay.
